League Game Rules
Ball Size:
For 6/7th and 8/9th Grade Divisions, size 7 (29.5”) basketball size will be used for league games;
For 3/5th Grade Division, size 6 (28.5") basketball size will be used for league games.
Team Selection:
The 3-Point Swish organizer will conduct pre-season tryouts for each League division. The purpose of the tryouts is to allow coaches to rate each player relative to other players in the League and to provide useful information to the 3-Point Swish organizer to form teams. Players are placed into divisions/teams based on TALENT/SKILLS FIRST and AGE SECOND;
Based on player's talent, the 3-Point Swish organizer may allow certain player to play up or down a division for player's development purposes. Furthermore, this formation will achieve a much more well-balanced competitive teams;
At the discretion of 3-Point Swish organization, an already formed teams may also join the League in-tact and participate in a pre-season tryouts.
Game Length:
There will be 4 quarters with 10 minutes per quarter in game length;
There will be a 1-minute rest period between quarters and 2-minute rest period during half-time and overtime period, if necessary.
Game Clock:
The game clock will run continuously and only stops at: 1) end of each quarter; 2) during timeouts; 3) technical foul; and 4) injuries;
Within 2 minutes of the 4th quarter:
Clock will run continuously if a team is ahead by 15 points or more;
Clock will stop for free throws or inbounding the ball when a team is ahead by less than 15 points;
In overtime, clock stops for free throws or when the ball is inbounding.
Loose Shoe Laces:
The game clock and action will not stop for players with loose shoe laces. Players are required to tighten their shoe laces before returning to action.
Fouls:
A player fouls out and is disqualified from the rest of the game after committing five (5) personal fouls;
Technical fouls are also treated as personal fouls. All technical fouls result in one (1) free throw shot and a possession of the ball;
Two (2) free throws are awarded when their opponent commits five (5) or more team fouls in each quarter;
Team fouls are reset at the end of each quarter;
In an event of an overtime, all personal fouls occurred in the 2nd half are carried over to overtime period;
If a player receives two (2) technical fouls in any one game, they will automatically be ejected from the game and must leave the gym immediately;
If a coach receives technical fouls, continuous one (1) free throw shot and a possession of the ball.
Minimum Playing Time:
Each player must play a minimum of 5 minutes for 3 consecutive quarters (1st through 3rd quarter), which achieves a total of at least 15 minutes per game;
In the 4th quarter, coach can choose any player to play without time restrictions;
The minimum playing time rule does not apply to any player who showed up late to the game, leaves any time prior to the end of the game, or is disqualified or ejected by the referee.
Substitutions:
For 1st through 3rd quarters, substitutions are only allowed at approximately 5 minutes mark;
4th quarter substitutions are allowed at any time.
Minimum Players:
If a team only has 3 players or less to play in a league game, the team must forfeit the game.
If the team have at least 4 players to participate in a league game, the coach is allow to borrow certain amount of players, with an acceptance from the opposing coach on certain skilled player(s) that is within the league in the same division, to achieve the following adequate amount of players for a league game;
3-5th division (borrowing necessary amount of players to achieve a total of 7 players)
6/7th division (borrowing necessary amount of players to achieve a total of 6 players)
8-10th division (borrowing necessary amount of players to achieve a total of 6 players)
NO borrowing of players during Playoffs or Championship games.
Timeouts:
Each team is allowed 2 timeouts per half and all timeouts are 30 seconds in length;
During overtime period, each team is only allowed 1 timeout per overtime;
Timeouts are not allowed to carry over between halves or overtime period;
Timeouts are only allowed when a team has the possession of the ball or when the ball is inbounding.
Full Court Press:
Full court press is allowed unless the team is ahead by 15 points or more.
Inbound the Ball (last minute of 4th and overtime period):
During the last minute of the 4th quarter and last minute of any overtime period, if a team with possession calls a timeout, they may choose to inbound the ball either from the backcourt or from half court.
Overtime:
There will be a 2 minutes period per overtime. If the scores are tied at the end of 2nd overtime, 3rd overtime will be considered as sudden death;
2-minute rest period between overtime.
Tiebreaker:
If two teams with the same record met once at any point during the regular season and one of the two team won in a head-to-head competition, the winning team shall be awarded the higher seed in the standings;
If two teams with the same record met twice at any point during the regular season and one of the two team won both games in a head-to-head competition, the winning team shall be awarded the higher seed in the standings;
If two teams with the same record met twice at any point during the regular season and split in winning a head-to-head competition, the team with the highest point differentials (total points scored minus total points allowed) shall be awarded the higher seed in the standings;
If three or more teams with the same record at any point during the regular season, the team with a higher point differentials (total points scored minus total points allowed) shall be awarded the higher seed in the standings.
Dress Code:
Home team wears “White” jersey and Visitor team wears “Blue” jersey;
All players are required to wear the jersey provided by the league along with a black-color shorts. No watches, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, or hair clips are allowed;
Jersey tops must be “tucked-in” at all times;
6/7th and 8/9th Grade Divisions:
The undershirt is considered part of the game jersey and shall be a color similar to the game jersey. It is coach’s responsibility to ensure players wear “White Color” as Home team and “Blue or Dark Color” as Visitor team;
One (1) technical foul free throw will be assessed if a player on the court wears different color undershirt from his/her game jersey.
COVID-19:
Highly recommend all players, parents, spectators, coaches, and referees to wear mask inside the gym regardless of vaccination status;
The following are COVID like symptoms:
Fever or chills
Cough
Sore throat
Shortness of breath
Fatigue
Muscle or body aches
Headache
Loss of taste or smell
Congestions or runny nose
Nausea or vomiting
Diarrhea
If a player, parent, spectator, coach, or referee suspects to have COVID, please stay home and get tested for COVID before returning;
If a player, parent, spectator, coach, or referee who tested positive for COVID, please follow the LA County Public Health on the Isolation Guidelines: http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/acd/ncorona2019/covidisolation/
For a player who tested positive, please inform his/her coaches immediately.
Refund Policy:
There will be no refund after the League's tryout date.
Service Rights:
3-Point Swish Basketball reserves the right to refuse service in order to maintain a safe, friendly, competitive and supportive program.
3-Point Swish Contest Rules
All league players can participate in the 3-Point Swish Contest;
Participants will have 1 minute to complete all three racks and two stands;
Each rack will have four basketball balls. The first three basketball balls will be worth 1 point and the final ball “Money Ball” will be worth 2 points;
The “Money Ball” cannot be shot until the other three balls on the rack have been shot;
Each stand will only have one basketball ball, which is called the "3-Point Swish Ball". The "3-Point Swish Ball" will be worth 3 points;
Participant’s feet cannot be on the line when he/she attempts shot. Spotter will notify shooter and official scorer if infraction occurs;
There is be a total of three (3) rounds for the 3-Point Swish Contest;
1st Round:
All registered League players participate in the Contest;
The top six (6) participants with the highest score advance to 2nd Round
Tiebreaker: There will be a 1-minute shoot-out where the same rules apply
2nd Round:
The top two (2) participants with the highest score advance to Championship Round
Tiebreaker: There will be a 1-minute shoot-out where the same rules apply
Championship Round:
The Championship Round will follow the same rules as above with participant who scores the most points becomes the Champion:
Tiebreaker: There will be a 1-minute shoot-out where the same rules apply
Coaches
Code of Conduct
Practice schedule and location are determined by coaches (e.g. outdoor/indoor courts);
Coaches are role models and must keep in mind that their behavior and attitude will greatly influence the actions of their players and spectators; Coaches should lead by example by demonstrating leadership, sportsmanship and the highest moral character; Coaches should treat all players equally without bias;
During games or practices, coaches should conduct in a dignified manner. Coaches should never criticize a player publicly nor yell or ridicule a player for making mistakes; Coaches should keep emotions, language, and attitude in check;
Coaches much demonstrate respect for the integrity and judgement of referees and their opponent, and therefore must refrain from confrontations or arguments in front of players or spectators or making comments or gestures that indicate disrespect for referees or opposing coaches;
Coaches should refrain from using any foul or abusive language toward any coach, player, referee, parents, or scorer;
With an exception of encouraging, appreciating or congratulating, Coaches should refrain from touching or making any physical contacts with coach, player, referee, parents, or scorers;
Coaches must encourage their players to show respect for the referees and not permit players to make critical remarks to or about an official during a contest;
It is the Coaches responsibility to monitor the 3-Point Swish Basketball website frequently to determine if any game schedule changes;
For the duration of the basketball season, coaches should give priority to the interests of their team by providing at a minimum of 1-hour per week basketball practices; For some reason (e.g. weather, holiday, emergency, etc.) the practice is cancelled, coaches should notify parents in advance to arrange for an alternative practice schedule;
Coaches should not charge any player for practice or training lessons during the 3-Point Swish Basketball season;
Only head coaches are allowed to stand during the game, while assistant coaches should sit in the bench with players;
Coaches should abide by any disciplinary decisions by 3-Point Swish Basketball organizer;
Coaches should use the basketball platform and instill life-lessons and values to players such as work ethics, teamwork, sportsmanship, and respect.
Players
Code of Conduct
Players should show appropriate respect to their coaches and listen and follow his/her instructions during practice and games;
Players should strive to be a good team player and conduct themselves in a way that demonstrates good sportsmanship and respect towards their teammates and opponents;
Players must avoid using profanity or disrespectful gestures;
Players should prioritize the 3-Point Swish Basketball League and make every effort to participate in all practices and games to build team chemistry and team spirits.
Parents and Spectators
Code of Conduct
It is the responsibility of spectators to be role model for the players and support 3-Point Swish Basketball goal of good sportsmanship at all times and without exception;
Remember that the game is for the kids, not the adults;
Only positive and supportive comments are expected to be heard from parents and spectators. They should never yell at, taunt, boo, ridicule, be verbally critical or be discourteous to the opposing teams’ players, coaches or spectators;
Parents and spectators must demonstrate respect for the opponent and the integrity and judgement of referees at all times – before, during and after a game;
Parents and spectators should not come onto the court during the game, unless instructed to do so by a game official or league representative;
Let the Coaches coach; Let the Players play; Let the Referees ref; Let the Parents and Spectators CHEER.
